Preparing to Install a Standalone Memory Machine Management Service Host

Before you install Memory Machine Management Service on a standalone management host, validate the host's hardware and configure software dependencies and kernel settings for the service you are installing.

About this task

Install Memory Machine Management Service on a standalone management host by following the steps in this procedure and in Installing a Standalone Memory Machine Management Service Host.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the host meets minimum requirements to run the Management Service.
The Management Service requires modest resources to run. Any physical or virtual host with 1 GB of available memory can run the software, provided the CPU resources are not entirely consumed by another service.
You must run the Management Service on a supported Linux operating system:
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) release 7 or 8
    • CentOS release 7 or 8
    • Ubuntu release 20.0
For more information about supported OS versions, see Operating System Requirements in the Memory Machine User Guide.
Note: The operating system (OS) on the standalone management host does not have to match the OS of the data hosts, but you must use the correct install script for the management host OS. For example, if your data hosts are running on RHEL 8 and your standalone management host is running on Ubuntu v20, you must install the data hosts with MemoryMachine-rhel8.bin and the standalone management host with MemoryMachine-ubuntu.bin. The Memory Machine version (for example, v2.3.0) must be the same for all data hosts and the standalone management host.
  2. If you plan to use a database for the Management Service other than the default local-host database, ensure that the standalone management host meets the minimum requirements for the database you plan to use.
This procedure assumes you plan to use the local-host database. You can change the database used by the Management Service after installation. See Choosing a Database in Memory Machine Management Center in the Memory Machine User Guide.
