Memory Machine Management Service

Memory Machine Management Service (Management Service) runs alongside the Memory Machine data service to handle tasks not having to do with application data.

Management Service runs as a service daemon named mmctl. Functions handled by Management Service include:

  • Running the web server for Memory Machine Management Center
  • Servicing API requests
  • Managing and storing configurations
  • Gathering metrics
  • Generating logs
  • Generating a monthly usage report for billing
  • Communicating with MemVerge if Call Home is active
  • Managing scheduled jobs such as scheduled snapshots

For the most part these functions do not concern the user, but you should be aware that Management Service exists and needs to be running on Memory Machine. See Running Memory Machine Management Service.

You can install Management Service on a data host in Memory Machine, or on a dedicated host. See Installing MemVerge Memory Machine.
