Getting started with MemVerge Memory Machine requires that you understand some background information about how persistent memory works. You can then install Memory Machine on a server and begin monitoring memory usage and capturing application snapshots.

You run Memory Machine on a host equipped with one or more PMem devices.

Uploading a License
One host in your network runs the Management Service. Unless you are using only file-based Standard Edition licenses, you must install one license using the Management Service in order to use Memory Machine.

Using the Memory Machine Management Center
Memory Machine Management Center (M3C) is a web UI application available on the host that is running the Memory Machine Management Service. You can view system resources and performance metrics; create and restore snapshots; schedule jobs; and more in M3C.
Using the Command Line Interface
You can administer and use MemVerge Memory Machine using the Command Line Interface (CLI) on any installed host.
Working with Applications
MemVerge provides additional instructions for some popular applications supported by Memory Machine, either to assist with complex setup or to support additional functionality.

Uploading a License

One host in your network runs the Management Service. Unless you are using only file-based Standard Edition licenses, you must install one license using the Management Service in order to use Memory Machine.

About this task

Your license determines the Memory Machine features that are enabled on your installation. The options are:

Standard Edition, which enables memory management only.
Advanced Edition, which enables all features, including snapshot capture, cloning, import and export, and others based on ZeroIO Snapshot, and cluster management.

Important: The first time you start Memory Machine Management Center (M3C), you must install a license before Memory Machine will manage PMem on any data host.

Procedure

In the M3C, navigate to Settings Console > License Settings Console. See The License Settings Console.

Note: If no license has been installed, the License Settings Console shows a page containing only the Upload License button.
Click Upload License.
In the Upload License Dialog, do one of the following:
- Click the Select File Button, then choose the license file and click the Open Button.
- Cut and paste the entire text from the license file into the License Content Text Box.
  
  Important: Cut and paste the entire contents of the license file. The license signature is used to validate the file, so omitting any part of the file will prevent the license from loading.
If you are replacing an Advanced or Standard license, check the Replace the existing license box. Only one multi-host license can be installed at a time.

Note: You can replace an Advanced license with a Standard license or vice versa.
Click Save.
